
Your skin is your body's largest organ - take care of it!
We did some informal research (surfed the web) and found that a lot of the things we thought were true about caring for your skin are.... not so much.
#1 "A tan will clear up acne"
First - the sun doesn't "dry" up oily skin - it likely makes you produce more sebum - not less. Second - not only can the sun turn any open wound (like a pimple) a darker shade of brown than the rest of your skin, but it can become permanent - it's called pigmentary scarring. You may be masking your acne with a nice deep tan - but when that tan fades you will be worse off than before - with blotches left behind that might not go away.#2 "Chocolate makes you break out"
Here is some really good news - sort of. NOTHING you eat will cause acne. Not coffee, not greasy food, nothing. It's a myth that your skin will "absorb" oils from greasy foods like french fries. Acne is caused when your skin sheds its cells, they get blocked in the pores and bacteria sets up shop.
#3 "A tan will keep you from burning"
Here's a newsflash - a tan isn't the same as natural melanin that's already in your skin. No amount of tanning will change that. So yes you will burn even if you are tanned, you just won't notice it right away.
#4 "Face excercise tones muscles"
Also untrue - your face actually is more likely to wrinkle if you do face excersizes because you will be doing more "skin pulling" - which causes wrinkes, laugh lines, and forehead creases - so keep a lid on the chin pullups.
#5 "A low-fat, high-fiber, lots-of-water diet will help keep skin healthy"
This one is true (ha - got ya!)
#6 "Lip balm protects lips from the sun"
This is only partially true - the balm you choose must contain sunblock - read the teeny tiny label to be sure. Lips can burn in wintertime too, so pick a lip balm with sun-protection when you go skiing.
