We've all been fortunate enough to eat at good restaurants, some of us have even eaten at the finer restaurants but how many of us have had a great experience at either? What makes a great dinner into a great dining experience? Wait staff, food, presentation, atmosphere, price, portion size...they all add to it but the experience comes from something else.
I recently went away on a little weekend escape. It was a rare, sunny day and my boyfriend and I drove through the city to Pennsylvania. Connecting with some friends, we took full advantage of the cozy, atmosphere provided by several of the old mills and historic farmhouses that have since been converted into amazing gathering places.
The menus were eclectic and diverse, chock full of healthy, locally grown produce. Every plate that arrived at the table was prettier than the next and the portions were plentiful but that isn't what made the whole experience memorable. Its the visually enticing atmosphere combined with the laughter of friends and the comfort of a familiar story, which makes it work. At the end of the evening, a great experience is when you're walking away smiling, even after paying the bill...
