Long Island is a terrific place to live, work and – perhaps most importantly – play! One way to fully enjoy all that the Island has to offer is to go bike riding. There are plenty of trails to choose from, some more popular than others. If you’re just getting started, here are a few that’ll definitely put you on the right path
Trail A: Jones Beach
A 4.5 mile bike trail that runs from Cedar Creek Park. You can find this bike trail just east of the Wantagh Parkway and it stretches all along the beach and provides some truly terrific views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Trail B: Hither Hills
A winding track travels through dense oak and pine forest along bluffs next to the Napeague Bay, offering some of the most jaw-dropping views. There are plenty of ups and downs, but nothing too extreme and the path is a mix between semi-paved roads and gentle grassy tracks. It truly is one of the most unique bike paths on all of Long Island.
Trail C: Bethpage Path
The paved route is 9.5 miles long and begins at Bethpage State Park. It’s easy to navigate, making it a perfect bike path for young children and beginners. The off-road bike path runs through a large pine forest and features many different challenges for the experienced off-road biker. Know though, there is a parking fee during the summer on weekends, and you will need to obtain a Suffolk County Green Key card in order to park here.
There is also the Long Beach Boardwalk for the casual rider which is only 4 miles of level boardwalk, and Cedar Creek Park at Jones Beach which is 9 miles round-trip... and if you feel like you can go farther it connects to Bethpage Park for a 33 mile round trip.
