“I’m
certainly pleased for our women’s team to win its third straight championship,”
head coach Andy Ronan said. “Our men’s team gave it all to
finish in third place.”
In the 5K
race, the Van Dalens finished in the top-five for the second consecutive year,
as Holly came in at 18:05.80 and Lucy at 18:20.80. Senior Laura
Huet (Carrickmines, Ireland) was a close fourth, finishing in
18:33.80. Capping four top-10 finishers was senior Lisa
Voltaire (Stockholm, Sweden), who placed seventh with a time of
18:48.70.
Sophomore
Hayley Green (Wellington, New Zealand) finished in 12th place,
crossing in 19:05.70 in her first race of the season. Junior
Carolina Cortes (Woodmere, N.Y.) and sophomore Patricia Barry (Tipperary, Ireland) also picked up key points for Stony Brook, getting to
the finish line in 19:24.30 (16th place) and 19:30.50
(18th place), respectively.
As the first men’s runner to cross from Stony Brook in the 8K race, Felce finished in fifth place, crossing in 25:42.20. Junior Tim Hodge (Tawa, New Zealand) was six seconds seconds behind him, as the defending individual conference champion finished in sixth place. Senior Daire Bermingham (Portmarnock, Ireland) placed in the top-20 for the second straight year, finishing 18th with a time of 26:24.10. Sophomore Gerard Harley (Setauket, N.Y.) crossed 27th with a time of 26:56.30.
The men's and women's team are back in action on November 14, competing at the NCAA Regional Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
